Join me for my talk at Carnegie Mellon’s Crowdsouring Seminar titled, Do-it-Together: the Role of Crowdsourcing in Innovation.

Innovation is critical to our economic and social prosperity. Yet acquiring the required resources is especially difficult for novice innovators, who lack competence and confidence. Crowdsourcing has the potential to change this. I present two projects. First, I present my latest research on crowdfunding and tools to support the exchange of resources from a distributed network of individuals online. Second, I present efforts to engage the crowd in ideation and decision-making. I discuss implications for the innovation process and crowdsourcing.

Julie Hui and Mike Greenberg received the Design Cluster Fellowship, created to establish a robust and sustainable multi-disciplinary research program in design methodology. Julie will be working with myself and Dr. Gergle on research on crowd funding networks.  Mike will be working with myself and Dr. Easterday on crowd feedback. Congratulations Julie and Mike!

My PhD students Mike Greenberg and Julie Hui and I have been doing exciting new research about resources exchanged in crowd funding.  The research was just featured in Young Entrepreneur.

I’m honored to be have selected by Public Interest Design as one of the top people re-imagining the world through design. I’ve been invited to speak on a Computer Supported Cooperative Work Panel called “Microvolunteering: Helping the Helpers in Development” by Anupam Jain  at IBM Research. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to talk about what works and doesn’t work.
